Goose Island – Bourbon County Brand Angel’s Envy 2-Year Cask Finish Stout 2023

Flashlight does not show through, no head retention, smells of chocolate, oak, and port wine. The taste is rich and very fruity with flavors of cordial cherries, raspberry, strawberry, grape, blackberry, and plum on a smooth and thick body. The finish is long and moderately bitter, featuring notes of dark chocolate, oak, vanilla, merlot, pinot noir, tobacco, and herbal hops. Overall, this is very good, I’d say more complex and nuanced than the Eagle Rare stout, and surprisingly close to the Backyard Stout despite being (presumably) based off the 2022 stout, however it does more red wine and oak notes.
