New Holland – Dragon’s Milk

Ahhh, it’s been awhile since I’ve had a bourbon barrel-aged stout! Flashlight shows almost no light, but upon closer inspection a deep crimson or blood red can be seen; head retention is light and it smells of whiskey predominately, very oaky and sweet as only a bourbon can be. The taste is sweet and creamy, with notes of chocolate and coffee are mixed oak and bourbon and faint alcohol burn; the body is very full yet creamy and smooth. The finish is mellow and low in bitterness, with notes of herbal and spicy hops, maybe some pine, but it all gets overpowered ultimately by the smoky aged caramel tones and gentle burn of a fine bourbon. Overall, this is one of the best I’ve had, the milk in the name comes through in the flavor and body, the dragon from the booze and smoke, and both together are divine.
