I review the beers I drink

La Trappe – Dubbel

La Trappe Dubbel

I decided I needed to sample some Trappist ales, and that they deserved a new Teku glass (it’s actually Surly branded) so here goes!

Slightly hazy with minimal head retention, smells of toffee, caramel, and subtle Belgian yeast. The taste is sweet with a stone fruitiness with notes of toasted bread and a slightly funky undertone paired to a smooth medium body. The finish is mild and low in bitterness with notes of alcohol and a subtle smokiness, maybe some light herbal hops but far in the background. Overall, it’s a damn good beer for the style, striking a fine balance between the rich and sweet flavors imparted by Belgian yeast and candi sugar
