Clear with virtually no head retention, smells of honeyed oats, strawberry creme, and alcohol. The taste is dense and bready with flavors of wheat crackers and toasted bread, but also with fruity undertones of apple, fig, and dates on a slick full body. The finish is long and moderately bitter, featuring notes of apricot, raisin, brandy, grapefruit peel, pine, and herbal hops with a touch of warmth in the throat. Overall, this is surprisingly layered, one of the more complex beers I’ve had the pleasure to sample. I’ve had a couple barrel-aged wheat wines in the past, but this one is not aged, and is far more interesting to sip on. Quite illuminating!
