F.X. Matt was the German immigrant founder of Matt Brewing Company (Saranac). Crystal clear pale straw color, smells of light hops and crisp lager yeast, faint grainy malt character. Taste is dry and crackery up front, with a very slick mouthfeel. As the flavor develops, the floral, lightly peppery hops shine through to give the beer depth. This fades into a crisp clean finish. All in all, this is just a basic crisp, clean lager, but done perfectly. Great beer for a hot sunny day, the beauty lies in it’s simplicity. I didn’t have high expectations for this one, but honestly it’s a damn good beer, and very sessionable.
