I reviewed the Tropical Torpedo a couple weeks back, but I hadn’t done this one yet, so here it is. No sediment, but still ever-so-slightly hazy. Smell is heavy, resinous, almost sour hop aroma, some alcohol, and a little bready malt and yeast character. The flavor is a balanced blend of deep, rich hop flavor and an equally thick, slightly sweet maltiness all the way through. Carried upon a thick, moderately carbonated body and finishing with a warm hop resin finish, this is a beer that makes a bold statement, and it pays off. Not quite as balanced as 90 Minute, hops are a little stronger here, but that’s the point: unapologetic hop presence, while still keeping the malt flavor strong enough to be noticed.
