I review the beers I drink

Russian River – Pliny the Younger

At long last, a holy grail of beer! #1 DIPA in the world! Pliny the Younger!

Ever-so-slightly hazy with minimal head retention, smells of wildflowers, citrus, and soft pine. The taste is thick and resinous with flavors of apple, pear, candied orange, papaya, and toasted bread on a thick, almost syrupy body. The finish is long and moderate to high in bitterness, featuring notes of pine, grapefruit pith, lemon zest, floral, and herbal hops. Overall, it’s a nice play on the Pliny theme, thicker and slicker bodied than DDH or President, and with more floral notes than tropical, it’s a solid, well made beer. That said, the hype and intentional scarcity of this beer are ludicrous. Full disclosure: I paid $135 for this single bottle of beer. I just purchased 8 Tree House whales (from the same auction-based source) for the same price! I’ll show you exactly what I got in the next 7 reviews (I’ve already reviewed Jjjuliusss!) and any one of them will put this one bottle to absolute shame. There is no reason why this beer can’t be brewed more often, other than hype-gaming and greed. FUCK Russian River Brewing Company. Honestly, DDH Pliny is close enough to this beer and, IMHO, OG Pliny is the best of the series anyway.
