Pours a clear chestnut color with light head retention, smells of caramel, toasted graham crackers, and fresh baked bread. The taste is crisp and dense with flavors of toasted bread, peppery grains, honey, and salted caramel on a smooth and creamy full body. The finish is long and moderately high in bitterness, featuring notes of grapefruit, pine, lime zest, and herbal hops. Overall, this is very good! I feel like the red ale is an underappreciated style, and this example has an excellent balance between sweet and spicy grains and bitter hops all on a smooth body, but without the deep smokiness of a stout or porter. Definitely one I’d like to try a 12 pack of.
