Smuttynose – Heritage Series: S’Muttonator

One of my favorite brewery names, Smuttynose out of Hampton, NH. I love a good doppelbock and this one is aptly named. Hazy with minimal head retention, smells of buttery crackers, like a Ritz, with a lightly toasty, boozy character underneath. Taste is a boozy sweetness, almost like a wine if not for the toasted bread, floral hops, and slightly raisiny/sourdough-esque flavors mixed in. A very complex beer, the body is slick and the finish is dry and buttery at the same time. A solid example of the style, it packs a punch in terms of flavor and alcohol content. Very tasty and well balanced.
