A collaboration with Brauerei Gutmann, this beer is not a Märzen style, as is most commonly labeled “Oktoberfest” here in the States, but a lighter lager style called a Festbier.
Clear with minimal head retention, smells of Honey Nut Cheerios, freshly risen dough, and floral hops. The taste is crisp and bready with flavors of toasted bread, honey, and a soft wheat pepperiness on a smooth medium body. The finish is long and moderately bitter, featuring notes of herbal and spicy hops, lemon zest, and subtle pine. Overall this is a very good lager, assertively hopped as is Sierra Nevada’s style but with German hops and a strong malt profile to balance it out.
