Named for the four generations of brewers at F.X. Matt (parent company of Saranac). Hazy with a thick, rocky head; smells of fresh citrus and pine hops, with a light bready quality underneath. The taste is crisp and biscuity with notes of mineral water and a subtle pepperiness, body is full. The finish is moderately bitter with notes of pine, citrus peel, and herbal hops. Overall it tastes, like many other session IPAs, like a watered down version of a better IPA. It’s not bad by any means, if you’re looking for an affordable, flavorful, yet light and drinkable beer, you could do a lot worse than this, but personally I’d rather just drink a Euro lager that meets those qualifications.
