I review the beers I drink

Sam Adams – Oaked Vanilla Porter

Flashlight shows a clear reddish orange hue with solid head retention, smells of hot chocolate, a mocha latte, and s’mores. The taste is rich and creamy with flavors of hot chocolate, marshmallow, graham cracker, and sweet cream on an extra thick, extra smooth body. The finish is long and moderately low in bitterness, featuring notes of dark chocolate, espresso, herbal hops, vanilla and maybe a hint of oak? Overall it’s a very rich and luscious beer, I enjoy it but the flavors aren’t quite as advertised. It is certainly a porter, but the vanilla doesn’t come through until the very end and the oak never really shows up; I get more chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker notes and would be more accurately described as a s’morter.
