Flashlight shows a deep ruby hue with fantastic head retention, smells of subtly smoked malts with notes of caramel and coffee on top. The taste is fairly sweet, with notes of chocolate and coffee, this time underneath the robust smoky campfire flavor, with a smooth and creamy full body. The finish is mostly clean and low in bitterness, with more smoke, chocolate, and coffee flavors and some light herbal hopping. Overall, pretty good; it’s smooth and drinkable like a brown, and definitely has a smoked malt presence, but I wouldn’t say it’s a full on rauchbier.
