I review the beers I drink

River Horse – Tripel Horse

Never heard of this brewery, but at 10% and for a dollar, it’s hard to go wrong. Hazy, as expected for the style, but a uniform haze, no visible particles. Smells of Belgian yeast, banana, fig, and alcohol, along with what I can only describe as the sensation of having anticoagulant administered through an IV, such as when donating blood or plasma… yeah, I don’t know why, it just has this medicinal scent that conjures those memories. Taste is surprisingly malt forward for the style, with the fruity yeast and assorted spices playing a more complimentary role to the doughy malts. A creamy mouthfeel accentuates this doughiness as the flavor transitions to a pleasantly spiced, herbal hop bitterness in the finish. Overall, the smell is kinda weird, but the flavor is interesting for the style, and the alcohol is hidden very well.
