Lightly hazy with minimal head retention, smells of rye bread, piney hops, and a warm handful of pennies. The taste is crisp and bready with flavors of toasted biscuits and saltine crackers with fruity undertones of apple, pear, and lemon on a smooth full body. The finish is long and moderately bitter, featuring notes of pine, grapefruit zest, herbal hops and a hint of smoke. Overall, it’s like (as the name suggests) an amplified version of Blood of the Unicorn; all the classic West Coast hop flavors on a rich and roasty malt bill, with a dangerous well hidden ABV to boot. Whatever happened to red ales?
