Lightly hazy with minimal head retention, smells of sour cherries, yogurt, and apple cider vinegar. The taste is tart and juicy with flavors of black cherry, jammy merlot, cherry yogurt, and raspberry on an effervescent medium body. The finish is long and very tart, featuring notes of lemon juice, cherry Warheads candy, and red wine vinegar. Overall, it’s not entirely unappealing, but it’s far too sour for my palate. Interestingly, the bottle states it is “A blend of Flemish oud bruin ale and Belgian kriek ale” yet the website says “A blend of Belgian kriek ale and American wild ale” which would make it similar to Three Philosophers. It is admittedly a subtle distinction, and the site does later, and in smaller print label it as “barrel-aged American wild ale” further blurring the line, however I would argue that this beer is distinctly and aggressively American in its acidity and far removed from anything traditional.
