I review the beers I drink

Ommegang – Hopstate NY IPA 2017

There was a lot of half price beer at work today, and my pharmacist was nice enough to buy me this one (thanks Matt). Very hazy with lots and lots of flocculate floating around, and excellent head retention. Smells strongly of hops, tropical fruits and a bit of piney resin, with soft doughy malt beneath; the alcohol content is hidden expertly. The taste is surprisingly sweet and fruity, notes of pear and melon, with a subtle pepperiness at the edges and a full body. The finish is very low in bitterness, but lots of citrusy hop flavor despite this with a long, slow fade out. Overall, it’s a cool IPA, utilizing only NY grown hops the result is remarkably drinkable and approachable for an IPA, especially one with this high of an ABV.
