Knee Deep – Breaking Bud

I read an article the other day saying Sony sent this brewery a cease and desist notice over the beer’s similarity to the show Breaking Bad, so I’m not sure how much longer these cans will be available. Hopefully they can just change the name and label and keep selling it.

Anyway, lightly hazy with moderate head retention, smells of citrus juice, predominantly orange, and some floral notes underneath; some may call this “dank” but I really see no resemblance to cannabis. The taste is very sweet (for an IPA) with lots of fruity flavors: orange, grapefruit, and white grape actually overpowering the toasted bread malt profile, all paired to a medium body. The finish is long and moderately bitter, with notes of citrus peel, grapefruit juice, and pine resin battling for dominance. Overall, this is a very good IPA, perhaps the best West coast IPA I’ve had yet. Insanely juicy and drinkable, it manages to be almost entirely hop-forward, without becoming a hop bomb.
