Kin released a new beta test flavor so I decided to give it a shot. Tastes perfectly fine from the can, I just wanted to pour one into a glass (with 2 ice cubes, it did have a significant head at first but it quickly dissipated) to see what it looks like, and this was a clean glass, I swear.
Rather hazy and vibrant purple in color, it smells of pineapple, cinnamon, clove, and anise. The taste is tart and sweet with flavors of lime juice, pineapple, and jammy red wine on an effervescent and surprisingly full body. The finish is long and lightly bitter, featuring notes of lime peel, raspberries, lime juice, wormwood, and mineral water. Overall, it’s quite delicious, the lime is a little sharp at first sip but you get used to it, and it’s a toss up between this and Actual Sunshine for my favorite flavor.
As for active ingredients they advertise purple maize for antioxidants, wormwood to “spark metabolism,” milk thistle for liver detoxification, and “Cinnamon + Clove” as “glucose guardians.” I also see PEA, GABA, Barberry root extract, and chili pepper extract listed as ingredients. So they’re going for a metabolic health tonic, which is something that is hard to just efficacy on and requires habitual use. However in the couple days I’ve been drinking these I haven’t had any adverse gastronomic effects.
Kin has also asked Beta testers for potential name ideas for this beverage. All I can come with are terrible puns like Kin A-maize-ment or PiƱa Cornlada, or idk, It’s My Jam because of the red wine notes.
