Hazy with no head retention, smells of GINGER (very reminiscent of ginger beer), with a hint of citrus and floral honey. The taste is kinda watery and lemony up front, very odd honestly, with a hint of ginger around the edges of the medium body. The finish however, is long and spicy immediately building on the initial taste into a warm, tingly ginger sensation all over the tongue with a hint of lemon juice. Overall, it smells amazing, and the finish is great, it’s just that initial “glass of iced lemonade that sat out too long and all the ice has melted” flavor that I can’t get over. I’ll just stick to ginger beer (can’t go wrong with a Crabbie’s for an alcoholic version, or the classic Gosling’s for non alcoholic; both make great mixers).
Final thoughts on the Groennfell/Havoc meads: Interesting, don’t regret trying them and they weren’t very expensive anyway, but you recognize quickly that these are all just the same base mead with different flavorings added. If I ever do get more, it’d probably just be the Old Wayfarer.
