Flashlight shows almost nothing, though very deep shades of purple (seriously) can be discerned, head retention is moderate; smells of caramel and smoke and chocolate, very inviting. The taste is very bold, strong dark chocolate flavor, in terms of sweetness bitterness and acidity, but with a smoky undertone and a full body and carbonic bite. The finish is moderately bitter with strong herbal and spicy hop flavors and some residual smokiness. Overall, a very nice beer to spend an evening with, well balanced but it packs a punch, and the alcohol is hidden well. Too many of these could lead to an interesting evening, and I wouldn’t mind drinking them.
