I review the beers I drink

Goose Island – Bourbon County Brand Stout 2020 (Aged in Bottle 5 Years)

Can you believe 2020 was half a decade ago?

Flashlight does not show through, smells of wheat rolls, chocolate milk, and brown sugar. The taste is rich and nuanced with flavors of milk chocolate, black cherry, sweet cream, and plum on a slick, and for the style thin, full body. The finish is long and moderately high in bitterness, featuring notes of dark chocolate, black coffee, herbal hops, oak, vanilla, and subtle smoky bourbon. Overall, this beer has developed wonderfully over the past 5 years, mellowing out the stronger boozy characteristics, while adding several layers of complexity in new flavors I didn’t detect before; definitely worth the effort!
