I review the beers I drink

Goose Island – Bourbon County Brand Cherry Wood Stout 2021

Flashlight shows a faint shadow of a plum color in the dark abyss, head retention is minimal, smells like a cordial cherry: chocolate, cherries, and cream. The taste is rich and moderately sweet, with flavors of milk chocolate, maraschino cherry, vanilla cream, with subtle caramel macchiato undertones on a syrupy smooth full body. The finish is long and moderately low in bitterness, featuring notes of dark chocolate, cherry stems, coffee, herbal hops, oak, and subtle smoke. Overall, this is my favorite of this year’s batch so far; the decision to go with cherry wood over cherry fruit was a smart one as it pairs with the oak barrel surprisingly well. I’d actually be interested in a whiskey with these flavors.
