Dave Drinks Beer

I review the beers I drink

Goose Island – Bourbon County Brand Café de Olla Stout 2019

Flashlight shows just the slightest hint of a deep amber hue, no head retention, smells of oak, dirt, and coffee. The taste is sweet and spicy with notes of caramel, coffee, and just a touch of orange chocolate. The finish is long and low in bitterness, with notes of dark chocolate, acidic black coffee, and oak. Overall, it’s very peculiar, I can’t quite make up my mind on it. I think the cassia bark, which I am unfamiliar with, is giving the aroma, taste, and finish a difficult to describe bitter/herbal woodiness. It is an enjoyable beer in the end, though also reminiscent of twigs.
