Alright, moved into my new place, so to celebrate, I’ve got a 25 dollar barrel-aged bottle to celebrate (that I got for half off at work). Sorry about the darkness of the picture, I have to replace the light over the stove and tried to make do with a spare flashlight.
Anyway, flashlight shows absolutely nothing and head retention is thin; smells of coffee, port wine, subtle chocolate aromas and just a hint of maple syrup. The taste is sweet and bold, lots of coffee and chocolate notes, hints of vanilla, maple, and a faint smokiness round things out with a silky smooth, almost creamy body. The finish is long and moderately bitter, lots of smokiness and boozy warmth, but subtle herbal and spicy hop notes can be found if you look hard enough. Overall, this is a fantastic beer, I do enjoy it more than KBS, it seems a little bit smoother and more refined. I can only dream of what this beer would be like after cellaring for a few years or more!
