Flying Dog – Shotgun Bang!

So, this next trio of beers I found have a bit of a violent theme, some incredible art (this one by Ralph Steadman, like all of Flying Dog’s labels), and all come with a story:

You know how it goes, one second you’re drinking a 9% tripel, and the next thing you know, you’re out on the porch yelling at strangers, THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK.
This salt ‘n pepper tripel masquerades as a well-behaved Belgian table beer, then cleans your clock with a blast of spicy peppercorn and pink Himalayan sea salt.
Surprise!
You just got shotgun banged. NOW GET OFF MY PROPERTY.

Clear golden pour with minimal head retention, smells of pale, doughy malt and funky Belgian yeast. The taste is crisp and bready with fruitier undertones of apricot and plum and a full, effervescent body. The finish is long and moderately bitter with spicy and herbal hop notes, along with a very faint presence of salt and pepper. Honestly if it hadn’t been so hyped on the label, I might not have even noticed them, the salt especially. Overall, it’s a well made, true to style, yet fun and unique twist on a tripel that is definitely worth trying, I just wish the salt & pepper were just a little more forward in the flavor.
