Flashlight yields a deep mahogany hue with light head retention, smells of chocolate, coffee, and peanut butter. The taste is crisp and toasty with flavors of charred biscuits, black coffee, and just the slightest hint of peanut butter cups on a full body. The finish is long and moderately high in bitterness, featuring notes of coffee, dark chocolate, herbal hops, smoke, and just a touch of peanut butter. Overall, it’s a solid coffee porter but I wish it had more of the peanut butter flavor to balance it out. The end result is layers of bitterness on top of each other, and while it is very pleasantly aromatic, there are no contrasting flavors to break up the monotony of bitter coffee, chocolate, and hops.
