Do IPAs Go Bad? {Juicier Bomb} Edition(IPA - Imperial / Double New England)

So, I’m trying something new here; I have committed sacrilege and allowed a few top shelf IPAs to age for up to a year. In the interest of science, I have acquired fresh cans and will compare the old cans to the new to see how much they have changed!

 

This can is actually from the same 4-pack as my original review here. Very hazy and murky with decent head retention and LOTS of particles floating around; smells of oatmeal, Chex cereal, and pine. The taste is bitter and flat with flavors of grapefruit and orange bitters on a full body. The finish is long and moderate to high in bitterness, featuring notes of pine sap, grapefruit, bitter orange peels, and herbal hops.

Moderately hazy and murky with light head retention (and no floaters); smells of pineapple, papaya, and citrus. The taste is juicy and sweet in comparison, with flavors of tangerine, peach, pineapple, nectarine, papaya, kiwi, and plum all blending together harmoniously upon the smooth, full body. The finish is long and low to moderate in bitterness, featuring notes of grapefruit peels, white grape, lime zest, guava, and soft herbal/pine hops.

OVERALL: Wow, what a difference! As you can see my language is more descriptive and more excited in the second review. Tasting the old first makes the new can taste so much better! All the nuances of the hops are so much more obvious after tasting the beer without them. This isn’t the only beer I’ll do in this series, but the lesson is already apparent; always make sure your beer is as fresh as possible!
