I-87, or “The Northway” is the local interstate highway in Glens Falls. Looks a tad darker than the original IPA, almost no head. Smells, I’m not making this up, like popcorn; subtle notes of pine and toasted bread, but overwhelmingly popcorn. Taste is big bold hop flavor with an odd coppery tone underneath. Malt fills out the flavor a bit, and the slick mouthfeel adds a level of complexity, but this is a hop focused beer, all the way to the warm, bitter finish. More American in style than their original, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the malt base is the same between the two. Overall, not unbalanced enough to be undrinkable, and it packs a punch, so I’d drink it again in a hop-craved pinch.
