Served appropriately in a Maßkrug, Fritzi pours lightly hazy with minimal head retention, smells of toffee, caramel, and toasted biscuits. The taste is bready and full with flavors of toffee, toasted whole wheat rolls, salted caramel, and subtle peppery grains on a soft and practically chewy full body. The finish is long and moderately bitter, featuring notes of burnt caramel, spicy hops, and smoky roasted malts. Overall, this beer is a love letter, both to the woman Fritzi “matriarch” to the brewery founders, and to the märzen style. This is a beer that’s so simple that each ingredient shines through beautifully and the balance amongst them is impeccable and harmonious.
NO DATE LISTED (but I purchased it at the brewery this morning)
