Perhaps the most famous grape from Sicily, smells of plum, cherry, and forest floor. The taste is bold and fruity with flavors of plum, cherry, fig, and strawberry on a lightly astringent medium body. The finish is long and mostly dry with a moderately low acidity, featuring notes of black cherry, raspberry, strawberry, dark chocolate, and tobacco. Overall this is a very expressive wine, bright and fruity and bold and balanced and complex and structured. To borrow a word from beer culture, this is probably the “juiciest” red wine I have yet sampled, and at less than $15.
