Interesting beer here, brewed in Hamilton, Ontario but imported into the states in Stowe, VT where The Alchemist is also located. Also featured here is my new Star Trek transporter pad coaster that I realized is also handy for showing light penetration in beers.
Anyway, as you can see the beer is quite dark, but the light reveals a dark brown color. Head retention is thin; smells of coffee and smoky malts. The taste is mildly sweet and creamy, with the mouthfeel to back it up, and a crisp, bready bite underneath it all. The finish is just as smooth with notes of smoke and coffee mixed with dry herbal hops, low overall bitterness, very faint acidity, and a lovely warm smoky lingering note on the tongue. Overall, this is everything you want from a great porter: smooth, creamy body and subtly sweet malt profile, tons of coffee and smoke in the finish, and flavorful yet balanced hopping. Excellent beer!
