Dave Drinks Beer

I review the beers I drink

Brouwerij Rodenbach – Grand Cru 2014

So I have to say up front, this bottle is a little over 10 years old, so it may not be the best representation of this beer, I found it for sale and decided to take a chance.

Lightly hazy with minimal head retention, smells of balsamic, raisins, and red wine vinegar. The taste is sweet and tart, with flavors of cherry, raspberry, and lime on a soft medium body. The finish is long and moderately acidic, featuring notes of raspberry, rhubarb, sour grapes, and plum with subtle notes of oak and grape leaves. Overall, this is a surprisingly enjoyable beer even at this age, with an absolutely PERFECT balance between sweet and sour. I have to wonder if fresher beer is as smooth or if the aging helped here but either way I quite enjoy it.
