Bombay Sapphire with lemongrass and peppercorns added to the botanical mix. *The official recipe calls for lime and lemongrass as garnish, but I was unable to find fresh lemongrass, and had to use a paste in a mesh strainer, then poured the gin over it.
Anyway, smells of lime and lemongrass mainly, the juniper is really downplayed in this gin. The taste is crisp and lightly peppery, lightly grassy/woody, with sweet citrus highlights. The finish is long but mellow, with a low bitterness and notes of citrus peel, lemongrass, and subtle juniper. Overall, it’s definitely bolder and in my opinion more interesting than the original Sapphire, and as such doesn’t get lost in the mix as much either.
