Col di Corte – Anno Uno Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Classico Superiore 2022

And so I begin my tour of Central Italian wine and Le Marche region. This is a wine made with Verdicchio grapes from the Castelli di Jesi DOC. It is also labelled as a “Classico Superiore” but I cannot find anything online about what these descriptors require; Classico is usually grown within a specific “classic” or original growing zone, and Superiore usually means stronger and aged, though this wine is unoaked.

Smells of honeysuckle, green apple, and pear. The taste is crisp and bright with flavors of white grapes, green apple, and pear on a light body. The finish is long and moderately low in bitterness but with a moderately high acidity, featuring notes of grape leaves, dry vermouth, lychee, Noble hops, and a sharp minerality. Overall, a very complex and layered white, bright but dry with only subtle fruit notes but a charming interplay between bitter and tart in the end. This is definitely a wine I will revisit sometime, and reasonably priced at $18/bottle.
