Angry Orchard – Orchard’s Edge: Knotty Pear

Angry Orchard Knotty Pear

A pear cider made with cardamom? Yes please! Cardamom is my favorite spice! Anyway, clear with no head, smells of crisp apple, fresh pear, and the lovely spicy warmth of cardamom. The taste is sweet and bright, a blend of zesty apple and mellow pear, with the added distinct spiciness of cardamom and a medium body. The finish is sweet and features a variety of pear flavors before fading out to a crisp, clean finale. It’s possible the white oak is present at the very end there, but it’s really hard to be sure, and it really isn’t noticeable anywhere else. However, this is a great pear cider, balancing the flavors of apple and pear perfectly, and then adding some spiced complexity on top, while retaining its sessionability. The Old Fashioned is perhaps a tad better than this one, but I love cardamom enough to thoroughly enjoy it.
