So, a local chain of gas stations here in upstate New York called Stewart’s started selling this, their own brand of IPA. It’s brewed by a real local craft brewery Shmaltz, know for their He-Brew line of Jewish inspired beers, and a nationally released line of Star Trek beers. The “Other Pharmacist” I work with gave me a Stewart’s gift card for Christmas, so cheers to you Matt!
Hazy with excellent head retention, smells of citrusy hops and some faint, bready malt underneath. Taste is sweet, kind of lemony with some pineapple and mango flavors underneath, and a smooth, full bodied malt character. The finish is dry and moderately bitter, with more citrus and tropical flavors that linger, but don’t offend the palate. Overall, it’s a lot better than I thought; a little watery tasting, but otherwise a solid, approachable New England style IPA with a nice balance of flavors.
