I review the beers I drink

Plzeňský Prazdroj – Pilsner Urquell

So, I needed to properly break in this new pilsner glass with the beer it was made for. Now, this glass was designed by Trumer Pils from Austria, but apparently all Trumer Pils available in the States (not that I could find any around here anyway) is brewed in Berkeley, CA. Furthermore, in my quest to obtain this surprisingly hard to find glass, I emailed Trumer directly and they could only refer me to their webstore I had already browsed, featuring primarily stange type glasses. So, I decided fuck it, bought unbranded glasses (branded don’t seem to exist), and picked up the original pilsner, from the town of Pilzen in the Czech Republic, Pilsner Urquell.

Spectacularly clear, with low head retention, smells of light herbal hops and clean lager yeast. Taste is crisp and bold, hops hit you straight away, with a moderate bitterness and Noble hop flavor, earthy and herbal; malt just provides a light, bready background and a thin mouthfeel. The finish is really subtle, the hop flavors just fade out into a clean mineral flavor. Overall though, it’s the quintessential Euro pils, bold and assertively hopped, yet light and refreshing. Like a session IPL with more finesse and history.
