Interesting concept for an IPA here, using leftover grape must from wine making, the result is a hazy ruby-red color, with light head retention, looks kinda like a red grapefruit radler. Smell is red wine, hints of plum and wild berries, mixed with a subtle hop aroma underneath. The taste is slightly tart and acidic initially, but this gets overpowered by the bready, lightly spicy malt notes; mouthfeel is light, reminiscent of champagne. The light astringency from the wine must and the drying effect of the carbonation work to cleanse the palate before the second act, wherein the finish presents a moderately hoppy finish with big notes of pine and citrus peel, melded with the tannins of a good red wine, leaving a very distinct and unique impression. A very cool beer, with insane amounts of complexity, and Dogfish Head has pioneered the wine/beer hybrid, but this WInePA is my favorite so far and could become it’s own style some day; I would love to try more like it!
