I review the beers I drink

Broadbent – 10 Year Boal Madeira

Pours the color of fresh honey, smells of honey, wildflowers, caramel, and clove; a truly enthralling aroma. The taste is sweet and fruity with flavors of apple, cherry, strawberry, and pecan praline on a silky smooth light body. The finish is long and warm with a moderately low bitterness and mild acidity, featuring notes of apricot, pear, walnut, hazelnut, toffee, grape leaves, and oak. Overall this wine is like a whole new level of quality for me. The aroma, the taste, the complexity, the balance, it’s all so much more intense than I thought was possible for a wine. I can confidently say that the “noble” Madeira grape varietals are so called for a reason! The Reserve with Tinta Negra was a great wine, but the Boal here is so much more nuanced and full of unique flavors. I can also now taste the difference in complexity and nuttiness both the extra 5 years time and the canteiro method add.
