Flashlight shows virtually nothing! Deep, dark brown shades around the edges of the glass, but otherwise nothing; this may be the darkest beer I’ve ever had. Minimal head retention, but in the nose a boozy, raisiny, winey kinda aroma dominates, with notes of smoky, roasty malts and coffee underneath. On the tongue, a slick, but still thick and almost chewy mouthfeel carries a roasted, creamy flavor that develops into a full fledged punch in the face of roasted flavors, with the perfect level of floral hop bitterness underneath, just enough to back up the roast malts, but not enough to upstage them. Finish is warm and smoky and pleasantly bitter, a relief after the assault of smokiness. If you’re craving a dark beer, a seriously dark beer, a beer so dark that (almost) no light can escape it, drink this beer.
