Very hazy and lightly murky with light head retention, smells of caramel and West Coast hops. The taste is sweet and bready with flavors of toasted biscuits, caramel, honey, and cream on a thick syrupy body. The finish is long and high in bitterness, featuring notes of pine, grapefruit peel and herbal hops. Overall, this beer is probably past its prime, as an IPA, definitely, but barleywines do age well so I’m not sure. As it is here, it’s much sweeter than I would expect you front by balanced by an appropriate level of hops in the finish, though it does feel like it’s missing some nuance fresh hops would provide.
