I review the beers I drink

Brouwerij Van Steenberge – Gulden Draak Imperial Stout

Flashlight shows a deep blood red going on purple hue with minimal head retention; smells of roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate. The taste is sweet and smoky with flavors of chocolate milk, cappuccino, sweet cream, and vanilla on a smooth and creamy extra full body. The finish is long and low in bitterness, featuring notes of dark chocolate, espresso, smoke, and subtle herbal hops. Overall, I wasn’t sure if I should expect a stout or a dark Belgian, but this is definitely a stout, albeit an extra sweet and sticky one, with very subtle Belgian flourishes from the yeast/bottle conditioning.
