Colombo – V.Q.P.R.D. Sweet Fine Marsala DOC NV

At least I’ve come to the end of my Italian wine journey with a couple Marsalas, the Sicilian fortified wine. V.Q.P.R.D. stands for “Vino di Qualità Prodotto in Regioni Determinate” essentially the same thing as Denominazione di Origine Controllata on the label; Fine means it has been aged at least one year.

Pours a reddish amber hue reminiscent of Brunello, smells of raisin, fig, and amaretto. The taste is sweet and rich with flavors of fig, raisin, plum, caramel, and apricot on a tannin free medium body. The finish is long and semi dry and with a low acidity, featuring notes of caramel, vanilla, raisin, hazelnut and oak. Overall, it’s smooth and well balanced with a subtle nutty character throughout; a lovely after dinner sipping wine.

ABV:18%
IBU:
Malts:Made with Inzolia, Cataratto, Grillo grapes
Other:After vinification "Alcohol, mistella (fresh grape must with added alcohol) and mosto cotto (concentrated fresh grape must which is traditionally “cooked” until it reduces to a third of its original volume) are then added to the base wine." The wine is then "aged for over 2 years (minimum 1 by law) in Slavonian oak barrels."
Yeast:Wine
