I’ve finally reached the southern tip of Italy with this Puglian wine, though I still have a couple more regions to the west to go. It is also worth noting that Primitivo grapes are also known as Zinfandel in other parts of the world.
Smells of blueberry, forest floor, and oak. The taste is fruity and lightly sweet, with flavors of strawberry, watermelon, fig, and berry on a soft, moderately astringent body. The finish is long and dry with a moderately low acidity and gentle alcoholic warmth; featuring notes of dark chocolate, black cherry, vanilla, plum, and pipe tobacco. Overall this is a very balanced and well structured wine, sweeter and more fruity than expected but finishes dry with a great complexity. A truly excellent wine for only $16!
