Clear with minimal head retention, smells of floral, herbal, and piney hops. The taste is crisp and clean with flavors of grapefruit, buttery crackers, and honey on a medium body. The finish is long and moderately bitter, featuring notes of pine, juniper, grapefruit peels, and herbal hops. Overall it’s similar to a West Coast pale ale, hop forward and resinous with enough malt to balance it out. And I appreciate the name “Hoppy Lager” as it’s straightforward and to the point, unlike “Cold IPA” or “IPL.”
