Dave Drinks Beer

I review the beers I drink

Surly – First Avenue +1

Lightly hazy with solid, rocky head retention, smells of bread dough, honey, and grassy hops. The taste is crisp and bready with flavors of toasted biscuits, Honey Nut Cheerios, and a hint of citrus on a slick medium body. The finish is long and moderately high in bitterness, featuring notes of grapefruit pith, lemon zest, herbal hops and pine. Overall, it’s sessionable and has a decent malt character to back up the hops, though I find it a bit overly hopped and unbalanced, somewhat reminiscent of an IPL.
