Quick Notes on Vermouths(Vermouth)

Dry Vermouths:

Martini & Rossi Extra Dry

Smells of Pinot Grigio, green apples, and a subtle woodiness. Tastes sweet featuring white grape, pear, green apple, and honey. Finish is very low in bitterness with notes of apple skins, herbal bitters, and just a hint of oak. Very bright, and surprisingly sweet and acidic for “extra dry” but quite an enjoyable white wine flavor. 15%ABV

Noilly Prat Extra Dry

Smells of Riesling, pear, and licorice. Tastes lightly sweet and bright with featuring apple, pear, honey, and lightly toasted oak. Finish is very low in bitterness with notes of grape leaves, oak, cardamom, and licorice. Bright and woody, it’s complex and enjoyable, with more distinct aromatics than the Martini & Rossi. 18%ABV

Dolin Dry

Smells of pear, kiwi, and strawberry. Tastes bright and moderately sweet with green apple, pear, and strawberry. The finish is dry with notes of apple skins, kiwi, lemon zest, white grapes, and just a touch of oak. Overall, it’s really good, but I don’t pick up any botanicals. It’s just a bright and fruity white wine reminiscent of Riesling just barely kissed by oak. 17.5%ABV

White Vermouths:

Dolin Blanc

Smells of blueberry, wildflowers, and woodruff. Tastes very sweet with honey, pear, apple, amaretto, and kiwi. The finish is lingering and lightly sweet with notes of plum, apple, pear, grape juice, and a hint of cinnamon. Overall this is quite enjoyable on its own, and possibly the fruitiest wine I’ve ever tasted with just a touch of herbal botanicals. 16%ABV

Sweet/Red Vermouths:

Martini & Rossi Rosso

Smells of sage, rosemary, and licorice. Tastes very sweet featuring honey, cherry, grape, cranberry, and strawberry. Finish is low on bitterness with notes of Luxardo cherry, cinnamon, clove, oak, and tobacco. Right on the edge of being too sweet, but balanced, layered, and decadently smooth. 15%ABV

Noilly Prat Rouge

Smells of cherry, orange peel, and baking spice. Tastes very sweet featuring strong flavors of honey and cherry, with softer orange and raspberry flavors underneath. Finish is low in bitterness with notes of fruity red wine, oak, cinnamon, and clove. Very, very sweet, a little intense drinking neat, but the fruitiness is very pleasant and should be able to cut through strong spirits well. 16%ABV

Dolin Rouge

Smells of wormwood, oak, and licorice. Tastes very sweet and bright with flavors of strawberry, cherry, raspberry, and cranberry. The finish is low in bitterness with notes of blackberry, strawberry jam, a hint of oak, and a hint of bitter herbs. Extraordinarily complex with layers upon layers of jammy fruits balanced with a soft oaky, medicinal murmur underneath. Simply outstanding. 16%ABV
