I review the beers I drink

Surly – Axe Man

Formerly known as Todd the Axe Man before head brewer Todd Haug left to go to Three Floyd’s.

Lightly hazy with light head retention, smells of pine, doughy malts, and orange blossoms. The taste is crisp and resinous with flavors of toasted biscuits, juniper, grapefruit, and apricot on a full body. The finish is long and moderately bitter featuring notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, and pine sap along with herbal and floral hops. Overall, this is a very aggressively hopped beer, somewhere in between East Coast fruity and West Coast piney. The end result is well balanced and surprisingly crushable for it’s IBUs.
