Sierra Nevada – Sidecar Orange Pale Ale

Sierra Nevada’s classic Pale Ale with orange peel added to the kettle. Crystal clear, smells of orange predominantly, with undertones of citrus blossom and citrusy hops. Tastes of hop bitterness and orange peel straight away, but this is kept fully in check by the bready malt backbone, masterful level of balance here. As the flavor develops amidst the thick, chewy mouthfeel, it becomes more complex among the hops, orange, and malt flavors; each taking turns dancing across your tongue. The finish is crisp and dry, with a little bit of the orange peel flavor. The original Pale Ale is a masterpiece to begin with, but you can tell the brewers had fun here, getting that balance just right on the orange so that it enhances the original into something new. Excellent beer, and perhaps best “fruit pale ale” I’ve had.
